Government is a structured system put in place to rule over the citizens of a population, nation, etc. Its main purpose is to aid, protect, and provide for these citizens without interfering with their rights. The majority of people have no interest in participating in politics, so politicians use their powers to make the decisions which will shape the lives of the population. In the United States, these powers are listed in the Constitution and outline the duties of the three branches of government; the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branch.
